Machine Operator


MSI develops and manufactures highly complex electro-mechanical sonar assemblies for defense and commercial applications. Under general supervision, the Machine Operator sets up and operates the surface grinder, belt sander, milling machine, and lathe equipment for developing and manufacturing underwater sensors.


While in the performance of job requirements, observes all safety regulations including personal protective equipment applicable to the use of heavy equipment and machinery, lead, electrical tooling, and applicable to the use of chemicals including isopropyl alcohol, epoxies, aqueous cleaning solution or other chemicals pertinent to the position. Performs weekly maintenance on all machinery.


  • Sets up Parallels and inserts composite onto plate and applies even pressure.
  • Sets machine into operation; removes composite from grinder and inspects for flaws upon completion of Engineering's specified dimension.
  • Deburrs any excess material and uses air hose to remove residue and dust.
  • Deliverers product to specified areas.
  • Changes wheel on grinder and cleans sludge from inside machinery.
  • Cleans waste from holding tank as required.
  • Keep area clean and orderly.
  • Completes necessary paperwork.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.


  • Changes jaws on vises based on designated job.
  • Cleans the vises after each pass on the miller, and changes blades on the cutter. Oils the table for proper maintenance of milling machine.
  • Places product into appropriate fixtures and ensures equipment is set at proper cutting height for particular product.
  • Deburrs edges to remove excess material left on product.
  • Uses air hose to remove debris and excess dust from machined product.
  • Deliverers product to specified areas.
  • Completes paperwork as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.


One year soldering experience and soldering certification preferred. One year work experience preferably in a manufacturing environment. Ability to move assemblies of up to 20 lbs.


High school education or equivalent background. 1 to 3 years work related experience. Can read mechanical drawings, make measurements with calipers and use a calculator. Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Have good manual dexterity and maintain flexibility.
