Junior Buyer

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general guidance of the Senior Buyer, the Junior Buyer reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions. Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing, planning and engineering departments to acquire inventory in a cost effective and timely manner. Processes purchase requisitions, purchase change orders and requests for quotes to suppliers. Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity.


JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Place purchase orders for assigned product, commodity, service and/or suppliers- in line with MRP and business requirements.
  • Proactively follow up on placed purchase orders to ensure required delivery date is met (not just commit date).
  • Act as expeditor to ensure delivery times are met and help resolve any shipping or receiving errors to get the components to production to avoid any production down time.
  • Manage and evaluate suppliers considering price, quality, availability, and other criteria relevant to the product, commodity or service being purchased.
  • Negotiate to ensure best price and delivery are attained
  • Using available software (Silicon Expert) and other online tools to aid in search of hard-to-find components and to determine alternate parts working with our sourcing engineering team.
  • Ensure you are working to meet team goals and achieve assigned KPI/Metrics to deliver required results.
  • Become the subject matter expert (SME) in the purchasing modules of the company ERP (IFS).
  • Learn all aspects of the purchasing processes so that you can cover for the senior buyer in their absence.
  • Actively monitor industry trends for relevant commodities.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects with members of the supply chain staff and other departments.
  • Interface with all key departments throughout the company.
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Associate Degree
  • One+ years of purchasing experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of an ERP system specifically MRP
  • Solid understanding of purchasing terminology and SOP (standard operating procedures)

Primary functions are performed sitting or standing or a combination of both.
  • Visual acuity sufficient for work which deals largely with reading, writing and computer work.
  • Ability to perform repetitive or routine duties working from detailed instructions and under standard procedures.
  • Ability to endure periods of heavy workload.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
